The Full Spectrum Club welcomes Wake Tech alumna Emily Igo to speak about the important issue of dating violence. Ms. Igo has been a passionate advocate for interpersonal violence victims for many years. She currently works as a Case Manager and Legal Advocate for the Durham Crisis Response Center and is delighted to have this opportunity to spread awareness regarding dating violence and how to prevent it.
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a national effort to raise awareness about abuse in teen and 20-something relationships and promote prevention. Dating violence is more common than many people think. One in three teens and young adults in the U.S. will experience physical, sexual or emotional abuse by someone they are in a relationship with. And nearly half (43%) of dating college women report experiencing violent and abusive dating behaviors. The goal of this event is to spread awareness and stop dating abuse before it starts. Come learn how to recognize the danger signs and protect yourself and your friends and family, if needed!
