PTK Orientation 2019

Last week, PTK Beta Alpha Zeta held its annual orientation sessions for new members. South Campus Orientation was held in PLM 241 on February 26th, while the North Campus Orientation was held in NE 360 on February 28th. 15 new potential members were in attendance on South Campus, and 8 attended North Campus’s session. Refreshments were provided for attendees, and the officers and faculty advisors present got to know the newcomers. Chapter President Douglas Hill spoke about our society and gave an overview of its benefits, as well.

Here are a few reminders and tips for our newest members:

– You do not have to attend the induction to become a member; you only have to secure your passcode and pay the fee before the deadline. However, we recommend that you do attend: it’s a nice ceremony, and a priceless experience!

– If you are attending the induction, please email Dr. Kamuabo (jkkamuabo@waketech.edu) about how many guests you will be bringing by March 15th. You may invite up to 6 people to the event.

– Pay your fee and enter your passcode ASAP! Remember to do these things by April 10th at the latest in order to be acknowledged for graduation. Email Advisor Hill (sjhill@waketech.edu) to verify.

– PTK membership can provide you with scholarship money, among other benefits. Though the spring scholarship application is already closed at this time, please keep an eye out for future application openings.

– Since most of the present officers are graduating this semester, nominations for the officer elections are going on now! If you want to serve this chapter by becoming an officer, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

– Though there are always opportunities to help out in our PTK chapter, this semester will have plenty of chances for members to assist with fundraising. Fundraising and fellowship are two of our current focuses, and we have exciting events coming up!

– If you are in financial need and are having trouble paying your member fee, remember the Golden Opportunity Scholarship! To apply, you will have to write a 250-500 word essay about your situation and what PTK membership means to you. The deadline to apply this year is April 1st, 2019.

Congratulations, and welcome to Beta Alpha Zeta!

North Campus Orientation Recap

Thursday, September 20th was a busy but enjoyable day for Beta Alpha Zeta! The North Campus Orientation was held in Room NE350, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Twenty-nine students who had received PTK emails were in attendance.

Chapter President Douglas Hill, along with Vice President of North Campus Jemin Park and Recording Secretary Kenan Dew, gave a Powerpoint presentation about various important aspects of our Honors Society. As Publicity Secretary, I also spoke about the benefits of being an active participant in PTK.

Faculty Advisor Ms. McCoy was present as well. She gave a short talk about PTK, and afterwards assisted students in obtaining their admission passcodes.

The attendees played icebreaker games and were also provided with refreshments. It was an event that not only informed our newest members about the society they are joining, but also allowed them to experience fellowship, one of PTK’s core values, in action.

Important Upcoming Dates

Hello PTK Members,

We have a lot of chapter events ahead of us. It can be a tough task to keep up with all these dates and deadlines, especially while juggling class schedules, family commitments, work, and extracurricular activities.

Now there’s an easy way to keep track of them. The blog calendar has been updated with this semester’s important upcoming events. If any more should arise, they will also be added.
