Unlocked Tower – Marjorie Walsh

Unlocked Tower

By Marjorie Walsh

She’ll hop that magic carpet,

She’s waiting for her ride,

She’d be long gone already

If she just knew how to fly;

She’ll go running home to fairyland

If you could point the way,

But she’s left here feeling useless

In a world too real to stay;

When all she wants when the day is done

Is something to be rescued from.

She wants to feel the heartache,

She wants to hear those cries,

She wants nothing more than to be lost

In all those pretty lies;

She’ll play the damsel in distress

If that’s her role to fill,

She’ll be anyone she has to

If it makes her story real;

Because all she wants when the day is done

Is something to be rescued from.

But the stepsisters are such sweet girls,

And the dragon’s been dead for years,

There’s no more need for knights or knaves

In a world too old for old-fashioned fears;

But all she wants when the day is done

Is something to be rescued from.
