Wool and Blood and Clay – Teresa Black

Wool and Blood and Clay

By Teresa Black

I was so lonely I could

hear my heart beat

so I made a friend

for me to meet

He fills up

this empty day

I made my friend

from wool and blood and clay

He can talk and smile

he can read

he can move

with lightening speed

Sometimes I misplace it

I don’t know where he’s been

but he comes back

splattered blood on him

And when I ask

if he’s seen Hell

he asks me if

I’ll sit a spell

And when I ask him

what he wants

he cuts my wrists

and taunts and taunts

then he asks me

what I see

I see a mirror

but it’s not me

I was so lonely

I could hear my heart beat

so I made a friend

for me to meet

I need you, my friend,

won’t you stay?

though I’m only made

of wool and blood and clay
